FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

[Leesburg, VA] – Virginia Revolution Soccer Club (VRSC) is proud to announce a significant shift in its player evaluation process for the upcoming season, prioritizing holistic development and long-term commitment over traditional one-day tryouts. This decision reflects the club’s dedication to fostering a supportive and development-focused environment where players can reach their full potential.

Instead of relying on single-day tryouts—which can be influenced by nerves, illness, or weather—VRSC will implement a comprehensive evaluation model that provides a more accurate and fair assessment of a player’s abilities.

A Player-First Evaluation Approach

Moving forward, player placement decisions will be based on:

  • Ongoing Player Reviews – Continuous feedback collected by coaches throughout the season.
  • Performance Data – A detailed analysis of each player’s growth and achievements over time.
  • Coach Observations – Year-round assessments of skills, work ethic, and teamwork.

This season-long evaluation process ensures that players are assessed based on their overall development, contributions, and potential, rather than a single-day performance.

Commitment to VRSC Families

This change underscores VRSC’s commitment to its players and families, prioritizing those who have dedicated themselves to the club. By focusing on development within our programs, VRSC reinforces loyalty, continuity, and a strong club culture.

Key Changes to the Evaluation Process

  • No Tryouts for Returning VRSC Travel Players

    • Players currently on a VRSC travel team will not need to participate in ID sessions. Evaluations will be based on year-round performance, ensuring fairness and consistency.
  • Traditional Tryouts for New U9 Travel Players & 2013 Girls

    • All U9 players new to travel soccer will participate in a tryout, as the club does not have prior performance data.
    • Players born in 2013 and interested in the Girls Academy will also take part in tryouts as VRSC forms a new team for the 2025/26 season.
  • ID Sessions for Out-of-Club Players

    • Players not currently in VRSC but interested in joining will have the opportunity to sign up for ID sessions starting February 3rd.

A New Era for Player Development

By adopting this progressive evaluation approach, VRSC strengthens its player-first philosophy while ensuring that each athlete is given a fair, comprehensive assessment based on their long-term development.
