A Brooklyn native, Alexander Dexter spent five years in Germany training with Bundesliga academy FK Pirmasens before returning to the U.S. to play collegiate soccer at the University of Pittsburgh. There, he became a four-year starter, recording 22 goals and 22 assists. He ranks second all time in school history for assists. Dexter was instrumental in helping transform the program, which rose to the nation’s No. 1 ranking during the 2020 season after being ranked 90th at the time of his commitment. Over his college career, he earned National Team of the Week honors five times and was named National Player of the Week once.

After college, Dexter signed with USL Championship side Loudoun United, making several appearances before transferring to the Charleston Battery on a short-term deal. He made his debut for Charleston on July 16, 2022, in a 3-1 win over Hartford Athletic. Following his debut, the Battery extended his contract through the end of the 2022 season.
